Donated Coats Cleaned at No Cost

SALEM — Locally owned Daisy Cleaners helped clean more than 100 coats donated as part of a book sale, food sale and coat drive at the local Xerox agency, Benchmark Office Systems in Windham.
The coats were donated through local churches at the book sale, and by many people who just want to keep children and families warm this winter.
Jim Desjardins, owner of Daisy Cleaners, and his team offered to clean them at no charge so the recipients wouldn’t have to worry about that. They were brought to Daisy Cleaners by the carful, then returned to Benchmark, ready to be donated.
Daisy Cleaners is at 14 South Broadway.

How to green your business

With 2012 just around the corner, here are some tips to save your office money in the New Year.
General good tips: Does your office have windows? Take advantage of them, natural light is better on the eyes and can lead to a more productive day.
It’s easy to cut down on waste in the office. Providing cream and sugar dispensers, filtered water and reusable cups, and bringing your own lunch in a reusable container are inexpensive ways to cut down. (If you’re really in the mood for some takeout get your whole office to go in on it: then you’re only making one trip).
Equipment Tips: Computers in the business sector waste $1 billion worth of electricity a year. Turn off your computer (and the power strip it may be connected to) when you leave for the day or else your still using phantom energy. If you can, invest in energy efficient computers or upgrade to laptops which generally use less energy, and Xerox printers. Be sure to recycle the old equipment properly. When your office goes on vacation or leaves for the weekend, don’t forget to unplug vending machines.
Go Green with Business Travel: American workers spend an average of 47 hours per year commuting through rush hour traffic. Why not take the Boston express bus once a week and use their free wifi to work or play, while minimizing your carbon footprint?
When traveling for business, try to use public transportation whenever possible. It will help your carbon footprint and may be easier than trying to navigate your way through a strange town.
Print Smart: The average U.S. office worker goes through 10,000 sheets of copy paper a year.
Printing on both sides of paper is a simple way to cut down on paper usage. Instead of throwing away useless papers, reuse them. When buying printer paper, look for recycled paper with a high percentage of post-consumer content and the minimum of chlorine bleaching.
Upgrading to a Xerox ColorQube makes good green business sense. It has a standard two-sided output, cartridge free solid ink, the cleaning unit last 65% longer than most, and can function as a printer, copier, fax and scanner: saving you the energy cost of running multiple machines.

Cleaning Instructions for Your Xerox DocuMate 510

Problem:
Black Vertical Lines show up when you scan in documents.

Vertical streaking is typically caused by paper dust, dirt, correction fluid and/or other blockage on the scanner glass. If your scanner is having problems grabbing paper or is grabbing multiple pages at a time it may be time to clean your scanner.

Solution:

Regularly cleaning your scanner can help to keep and maintain optimal image quality. The Technical Support recommends using the VisionAid maintenance kit for properly maintaining the ADF scanners, regular maintenance will help maintain scanned image quality.

If you have the VisionAid Maintenance Kit, please follow the instructions provided in the kit.

If you do not have a VisionAid Maintenance Kit, please follow the instructions below for cleaning the scanner.

Materials Needed:
·         1 bottle of Isopropyl rubbing alcohol (95%)
·         Cotton Swabs
·         Lint Free soft cloth or screen wipes dampened with Isopropyl rubbing alcohol

Cleaning the ADF:
1.     Unplug the ADF cable from the base of the scanner
2.     Open the ADF door
3.     Take the ADF pad out of the scanner
4.     Either wet a cotton swab with Isopropyl alcohol or open a screen wipe
5.     Wipe down both sides of the ADF pad
6.     Wipe the main feed roller (black) from side to side, rotate the roller as you are cleaning to ensure the entire surface is clean. DO NOT rub briskly on the roller as it will shred your screen wipe or cotton swab, which will leave debris in the scanner
7.     Place the ADF pad back onto the scanner
8.     Close the ADF door when you are finished
9.     Plug the ADF cable back into the base of the scanner

Cleaning the Flatbed:
1.     Lift the lid of the scanner
2.     Dampen the soft cleaning cloth with Isopropyl alcohol or open a screen wipe
3.     Wipe down the entire glass surface
4.     Gently wipe the white backing on the underside of the lid to verify there is no dirt that may be transferring to the glass
5.     Make sure to clean the ADF reference strip of glass
a.     This is the most commonly missed portion when cleaning the scanner glass.
b.    The ADF glass is a small strip of glass to one end of the Flatbed glass
c.     The ADF glass is surrounded with a white reference frame and is the ONLY area where the ADF scanned images are captured
6.     Close the ADF Cover
7.     Turn the scanner back on

If any of these troubleshooting tips does not resolve the problem, you will need to contact Technical Support.
